Withywood Community School: New Sports Hall

Construction Value £750,000

Kitto initially worked directly with the school to design and then obtain planning permission for a new sports hall.

Bristol City Councils’ Property Services Department then became involved and a community facility was introduced to allow the scheme to obtain National Lottery funding. Subsequently, Kitto were invited to tender on a ‘design and build’ basis for the larger project, which remained subject to the Sports Council providing National Lottery funding.

Funding was secured and Kitto duly won the tender, although this exceeded the council’s budget.

Therefore, by working closely with the Council, Kitto identified a number of areas where cost savings could be made without detrimental effect on the quality or specification of the works. The revisions to the scheme that were suggested produced savings of nearly £80,000, bringing the project back within budget and allowing a start to be made on site.

The project was successfully completed within time and now provides superb facilities including a four-badminton court sports hall with viewing gallery, aerobics studio and changing rooms, all of which are used by the school and the wider local community.

The project was then completed on time and on budget.
