Kitto Construction was appointed by Clifton College to convert an existing office building into teaching facilities suitable for their English and IT departments in Worcester Road, Clifton, Bristol.\u00a0 The completed scheme also provided a fully fitted caf\u00e9 for use by pupils and staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was essential for the school that the scheme was delivered within the \u00a31.82m budget and that the works were completed by the start of the Winter Term, 2015. The works were incredibly complex and involved significant reconfiguration of the existing building including the removal of load-bearing structural walls from basement to roof and re-support floors and roof structure to form large classrooms and also a requirement to provide a new staircase from the basement to second floor and a further feature staircase and atrium from the ground floor to lower ground floor to access the caf\u00e9 and gardens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The completed building combines the appearance of a classic Clifton villa with its use of natural materials including Pennant and Bath stone fa\u00e7ades under a slate roof together with the benefits of energy-saving and green technologies such as PV panels to the roof.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There was a desire for the building to become energy efficient and the existing services plant was replaced with new, the external walls were insulated and Kitto Joinery refurbished the existing box framed sash windows with double glazed slimlite units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There was also a number remedial works to the existing structure which included damp proofing the basement and underpinning the foundations to part of the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kitto were engaged once planning consent was received and the scheme started on site in late October 2014 with the building being completed including fully fitted furniture and IT systems in early August 2015.
